We are critically examining 500X Gallery as it has existed for the last 41 years so that we are doing all we can to welcome, center, and elevate BIPOC voices, both now AND beyond this crucial time. As we reflect on how 500X Gallery can actively support black folx, we realize the first things we need to do are: rewrite our exhibition roster so that we are providing opportunities that are specifically reserved for BIPOC creators and ensure our membership pool represents the incredibly diverse artist community.

500X IS BACK!! (We never left, we just moved!)
Press Release: 500X IS BACK (we never left, we just moved!)
500X is proud to announce its move to a new gallery location in West Dallas! This past February, 500X Gallery’s lease was unexpectedly terminated. Days before the opening of 500XIT, the farewell exhibition to our home for 41 years, the first positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Dallas. Though it was heartbreaking to cancel the final opening at 500 Exposition Avenue, the gravity of the situation prompted us to hold the exhibition events via live stream.
The new location of 500X Gallery is 516 Fabrication Street, Dallas, Texas 75212. Transitioning to this new space will allow us to continue our mission with a strong commitment to promoting and providing opportunities to a diverse group of emerging artists in the Dallas-Fort Worth community and beyond.
From losing our namesake location to experiencing a global pandemic, we have persevered! 500X will continue on because of our hard working members (past and present) and from the generosity of the North Texas arts community. We would like to thank all of our patrons and friends who have offered their support during this challenging time, and those who continue to aid our ongoing efforts. Though the work is not done, we look forward to welcoming you all to our new space in the future.

About the Jurors: On a cold November day in 1990 “Chuck & George“ were born on a cracker. While having lunch at Jim's Diner, UNT art students Brian K Jones & Brian K Scott sat at a table and painted each others portraits on saltines. They then declared themselves “Chuck & George”.Chuck & George’s over the top collaborations often come in the form of multimedia installations complete with printmaking, painting, ceramics, papier-mâché, electronics, animation, custom furniture, floor and wall coverings and more. Their world is insular and the work self referential, inspired by loved ones, literature, music, movies, kitchen gadgets, politics and parasites. Chuck & George are also co-founders and sole operators of the Visual Speed Bump Art Tour (originally the Oak Cliff Drive-By Studio Tour). Read more about Chuck & George by following the exhibition link below.
Awards: A juror’s choice cash prize will be awarded as well as a solo exhibition at 500X Gallery to one individual for the 2021-2022 Season!

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING 500X & CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
Due to rising concerns of coronavirus (COVID-19), 500X Gallery has decided to cancel the public opening reception of 500XIT scheduled for Saturday, March 14 to ensure the safety and well-being of our members, visitors, and the residents of the building. Effective March 14, viewing exhibitions will be by scheduled appointment only on Saturday and Sunday, 12:00-5:00 p.m. for the duration of the exhibition. While we hope to be able to have a public closing reception in April, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow the best practices according to public health officials.
In place of an in-person reception, 500X will provide a live stream on our social media channels beginning at 7:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, which will include a tour of 500XIT and other exhibitions, as well as remarks from 500X President Ashley Whitt. We are currently working on making our exhibition available to view online, as well as a virtual reality experience.
In addition, we are working to create an online store with t-shirts, stickers, and $41 works by 500X Members to help support our transition to a new space and to continue our mission to bring exhibition opportunities to a diverse community of artists in North Texas and beyond.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM 500X GALLERY
After 41 years at 500 Exposition Avenue, 500X Gallery’s lease was terminated.
Our doors will be closing permanently Monday, April 13, 2020.
Though we are incredibly saddened to leave 500 Exposition, our namesake, current 500X members have begun looking for a new space to house the artist co-op moving forward. In the interim, 500X Gallery will compact the schedule of remaining shows to accommodate its members' shows that were scheduled for March, April, and May. Additionally, we will work on alternative plans for the artists impacted by this situation.
In closing, 500X Gallery stands by its mission to promote and provide opportunities to a diverse group of emerging artists in the Dallas-Fort Worth community and beyond. While our organization will not be able to continue our mission at 500 Exposition Avenue, we hope to find another outlet to continue our longstanding commitment to artists in Texas. We send our sincerest gratitude to the community for your participation, collaboration, and support in our programming over the years.
