Monica Barrera is an artist and art educator with over 15 years of experience in the Dallas-Fort Worth art community. A proud alumna of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts, Monica holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master’s in Art Education from the University of North Texas. Currently teaching elementary art, she is passionate about guiding young minds to express themselves through creativity. Monica strives to build a vibrant and inclusive art community, believing that art has the power to inspire future generations.

Her work spans drawing, painting, embroidery, weaving, and sculpture, exploring the complexities of the human condition through an existential lens. Monica’s art reflects her personal search for joy, meaning, and miracles in the midst of life’s uncertainties. While often rooted in feelings of discomfort and gloom, her use of bold color, textures, and shapes offers comfort and understanding, providing a sense of warmth and solace to those who relate to her themes. Drawing from her cultural heritage, domestic crafts, and esoteric philosophy, Monica’s work is both deeply personal and universally inviting, seeking to connect with others who share her sensitivity and quest for deeper meaning.
